Exception Access Violation errors

The error message ‘Exception Access Violation’ can appear when zooming, using lettering, printing or scanning, saving designs, or viewing the Color Film. This problem generally relates to the display adapter driver and/or the display adapter itself. Try each of the following solutions in sequence.

Exception access violation at startup

Problem

An ‘Exception Access Violation’ error message appears when starting BERNINA V9.

Cause

A corrupt design file in the RECOVER folder or a corrupt ‘defaults.dfl’ file.

Suggestions

  • Run the Purge Recovery utility via the BERNINA V9 program group. See Purge corrupted files for details.

  • If that doesn’t work, run the Revert utility via the BERNINA V9 program group. See Revert to factory settings for details.

  • If that doesn’t work, use Windows® File Explorer to delete any files in the C:\ProgramData\BERNINA\BERNINA Embroidery\RECOVER folder.

  • If BERNINA V9 still will not start, copy the ‘defaults.dfl’ file from C:\Program Files\BERNINA\Embroidery Software 9RES\ to C:\ProgramData\BERNINA\BERNINA Embroidery\DEFAULTS. Overwrite the corrupt file. This will reset BERNINA V9 to ‘new installation’.

Note

  • If a design is saved with Cyrillic or other less common characters in the filename, you may get the same message. It helps to rename the file to standard characters – e.g. ‘abc123’.
